Upwork Virtual Community Hour: How to stand out as a freelancer

Tue, Feb 28, 9:00 AM (PST)

The Upwork Virtual Community Hour Series serves as a regular check-in point for community members to connect with each other and internal members of Upwork. We aim to keep this event more informal and inclusive for all. We’ll explore a new theme each month and feature guests and panelists from various backgrounds.

About this event

You've fired the old ways of work and boldly stepped into the brave new freelance world. Now it's time to turn that independent spirit into a plan to stand out, get noticed and win that work.

Join us for the Upwork Community Virtual Hour where we’ll discuss making connections and building your skills, on Tuesday February 28, with our special guest speaker Tochukwu Ibe-Ekeocha (Toch), Software Engineer, Full Stack Developer, and agency owner.

Toch has a long history as a freelancer, and recently founded a Software Development agency named Rapid App Developers (RAD). He has a degree in Computer Science from the University of Maryland, and is currently working full-time as a Software Engineer at Microsoft on their Edge team.

During the hour, Toch will share his experience and talk best practices on the following topics:

  • Networking and its importance
  • Your personal brand across platforms
  • Approaching clients and securing projects

Following the discussion, there will be a networking session in breakout rooms where you can exchange strategies and tips for growing your business.

The Upwork Virtual Community Hour Series is a monthly foundational event and regular check-in point for community members to connect live with each other and the Community team. The live streams will be hosted by the Community Events team and feature guests and panelists from various backgrounds. Compared to other event formats, Virtual Community Hours will be more informal and will consist of different elements and programming each month.

This is how we rise to our potential. THIS IS HOW WE WORK NOW.™
